Tom’s journey began in supported employment. With determination and encouragement, he has made the move into open employment. His passion for landscape maintenance and his drive to expand his skills led him to apply for a role with GreenInc.

For Tom, joining GreenInc has been a rewarding experience that has allowed him to grow both personally and professionally. He values the positive work environment and strong sense of teamwork that makes him feel supported and included. What he appreciates most is the culture of inclusiveness, where his managers are approachable and committed to providing guidance and development opportunities.
My managers have been awesome and if I ever have a problem, I know I can talk to them and they’ll help me solve it.
Tom’s workday begins early, with a 6.00am commute by public transport to ensure he arrives on-site by 7.00am. Once he arrives at the site, he and his team members prepare the tools, clear any green waste and set out to housing developments or construction sites to complete maintenance tasks. They also attend weekly toolbox meetings which help the team stay informed about safety, upcoming projects and the transition of new sites from construction into maintenance.
Tom has developed valuable practical skills while also building meaningful relationships with his colleagues. He feels motivated to continue developing his skills and working toward his long-term goals as he is supported by a diverse and inclusive team.
Building Skills and Looking Ahead
Since joining GreenInc, Tom has enjoyed the variety of work, the chance to be outdoors and the opportunity to contribute to projects that make a visible impact in the community. While he is currently focused on landscape maintenance, his long-term goal is to move into landscape construction with GreenInc. He is also working towards earning his driver’s license and hopes to buy a ute in the future to make commuting easier.
Outside of work, Tom is committed to giving back to the community. He volunteers with Scouts SA and as a Lions Club member, balancing his career ambitions with his passion for community service.
