John is Transforming Landscapes
GreenInc is a landscape construction social enterprise that is not only focused on creating beautiful, functional green spaces but also making a lasting difference in the community. At the helm of this impactful work in the Adelaide Hills and Central Adelaide regions is John Eustace, Operations Manager. From Murray Bridge to Port Adelaide, down the Fleurieu peninsula, the south coast and across to Kangaroo Island, John leads a skilled and diverse team committed to creating green spaces that leave a positive imprint on both the environment and the community.
A Passion for Landscape Construction
John has always been passionate about landscape construction and horticultural services and has worked in the industry for the past 18 years. As an Operations Manager with Greeninc, he now gets to combine this passion with the opportunity to lead a dynamic team. His responsibilities span a wide range of projects, including streetscapes, playgrounds, reserves, and water retention basins.
“I love the variety of work we do at GreenInc,” says John. “Whether we are working on a playground in Seaford, constructing a streetscape in Tonsley, or enhancing a local reserve in Victor Harbor, each project offers something unique. The satisfaction comes from knowing that the work we do will have a lasting impact on the environment and communities.”
Building Sustainable Green Spaces for the Community
In areas like the beautiful Adelaide Hills, it is important that new plantings feature native plants, so the landscape remains in harmony with the surrounding environment.
“As the Adelaide Hills region continues to grow, it’s crucial that we contribute to sustainable development,” John explains. “The nature play spaces we build in the Adelaide Hills feature native plants and trees, providing children and families with the opportunity to explore and connect with nature. These spaces are about creating a balance — bringing people into the outdoors while preserving the natural beauty of the area.”
This emphasis on sustainability extends to eco-friendly projects such as water retention basins and sustainable drainage systems, ensuring that the landscape functions effectively in the face of climate challenges.
Social Impact: Creating Opportunities for People of All Abilities
While GreenInc’s environmental contributions are significant, the social impact of the enterprise is just as profound. Backed by Bedford, GreenInc is a social enterprise dedicated to employing people of all abilities, including those with disability, who might face barriers to employment.
The social side of GreenInc is incredibly rewarding. We have a diverse team, and it’s inspiring to see people who have faced barriers to employment succeed and thrive. It’s about creating opportunities and making sure everyone has a chance to learn, grow, and contribute.
GreenInc’s approach to training and skill development is at the heart of this social mission. Senior, experienced team members mentor and train newer recruits, passing on their expertise in essential skills such as site set-out, levelling, and the construction of commercial irrigation systems.
“Training is something I’m really passionate about,” John continues. “The more experienced members of the team have a lot of knowledge, and they are always eager to share it. Watching people develop their skills and confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.”
Growing Strong Roots in the Adelaide Hills
In 2023, GreenInc opened a depot in Totness, Mount Barker, in the heart of the Adelaide Hills. This base of operations helps support the growing demand for GreenInc’s services in the region and marks an exciting new chapter.
“The depot in Mount Barker has been a fantastic addition to our operations,” John says. “It allows us to better serve the Adelaide Hills and surrounding areas. With the recent growth in the region, the need for quality landscape construction has never been greater. The Totness depot helps us to meet this demand while continuing to provide meaningful employment and training opportunities to our team.”
Building Resilience in Communities and the Environment
The work GreenInc does is not just about creating beautiful spaces — it’s about building resilience, both in the environment and in the people we employ. By using sustainable landscape construction practices, we ensure that the landscapes we create can stand the test of time.
“We’re focused on creating spaces that are resilient — that can withstand the challenges posed by climate change and development pressures,” John explains. “But it’s also about resilience in our people. By providing valuable skills and offering real opportunities, we are helping people grow both professionally and personally. It’s about building a stronger, more inclusive community.”
Every project GreenInc takes on, whether it’s constructing a playground, revitalising a street, or building a local park, has a lasting impact. These landscape construction projects foster connections between people and nature while also creating opportunities for employment and skill development.
Looking Ahead: A Legacy of Positive Change
As GreenInc continues to grow and expand its reach, John is excited about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead. Whether it’s building greenspaces in Mount Barker, creating new water management systems, or building nature play areas in the South, every project provides an opportunity to make a meaningful difference.
“At the end of the day, it’s all about creating spaces that people can enjoy, while also making a positive contribution to the environment,” John reflects. “The work we do at GreenInc is incredibly fulfilling, and I’m proud of the impact we’re making. It’s about leaving a legacy — one that combines sustainable, beautiful landscapes with a social enterprise that empowers people of all abilities.”
John’s commitment to both the environment and the community is rock solid. He looks forward to moving the earth to make a difference across the Hills and Adelaide for years to come.
