As one of Bedford Group's social enterprises, GreenInc is passionate about transforming landscapes and communities across South Australia. We are proud to build green spaces that leave a lasting, meaningful impact on both nature and local communities.

One of these communities is Adore Estate in Mount Barker, where we completed works for Austar Property that included a vibrant new reserve and surrounding streetscape. Over 12 weeks, our team transformed the site into a sustainable reserve and streetscape that will flourish for generations to come.

Building a Reserve with Sustainability in Mind

At the heart of the Adore project lies a constructed water retention basin within the linear reserve. This basin not only plays a crucial role in storm water management but also supports the long-term growth of the surrounding plantings.

Water retention basins are a valuable feature in modern urban design, as they not only capture and reduce the flow of storm water, but also allow water to naturally infiltrate the soil. This process reduces the risk of erosion, improves groundwater recharge and creates a more resilient environment for plants and wildlife to thrive.

To support the successful establishment of the reserve, our team implemented a custom-designed temporary irrigation system that provides targeted watering during the critical establishment phase.

This system supports the resilience of young plants and trees during the establishment phase, allowing the reserve to gradually transition into a largely self-sustaining landscape. To enhance long-term usability, a section of lawn has also been connected to a permanent irrigation system, ensuring ongoing amenity and functionality for the community.

A Landscape That Thrives Naturally

Throughout the Adore landscape construction project, our team worked to establish a resilient and environmentally conscious reserve by planting 122 native trees and nearly 10,000 native plants. These are supported by 2,500 square metres of jute matting with infilled planting to stabilise the soil and prevent erosion.

To further strengthen the landscape, 500 cubic metres of mulch was applied to improve soil health and retain moisture, giving the plantings the best chance to thrive. In addition to the extensive planting, our team constructed stone walls and cement-treated crushed stone paths, both built using rocks which were sourced locally from Mount Torrens in the Adelaide Hills. A timber fence was also crafted in-house, using timber supplied by Little Hampton Sawmill, just five kilometres from the site. By sourcing and utilising local materials wherever possible, the project not only reduced transport emissions but also supported nearby businesses, reflecting on our commitment to sustainable construction practices and community impact.

We recognise the fantastic work of the project's landscape architect, Spiire, in designing this landscape in such a thoughtful and conscious way.

We are impressed with GreenInc and their team’s ability to deliver a landscape that successfully balances community needs with long-term sustainability. The quality of their work, combined with their innovative approach to irrigation and use of local materials, has exceeded our expectations.

Thanks to their efforts, Adore is now a space that residents can enjoy while supporting the natural environment for years to come. Knowing that GreenInc is part of Bedford Group and proudly employs people of all abilities makes their work even more meaningful.
